Motherland, Inc. Cumulative Report Through December 2003 Summary – During the three years of the program and to date (December 2003) Motherland has received completed evaluations from 3277 attendees at their theater performances. The majority of the presentations have been sponsored by community based organizations (50.1%), schools (18.5%), and prisons or jails (14.9%). Participants ranged in age from teens to 50+, and the majority (30.4%) were under 18 years; 50% were African American; 54.6% were female. Participants were asked to rate level of agreement on five questions about the play and about knowledge points nested within the dialog. Agreement on all five questions ranged from 85% to 94.5%. The play presented new information to 76% of attendees, and made 94.4% aware of risky behavior that can lead to HIV transmission. 96.6% felt the topic of HIV was “extremely” to “very” important; 47% wanted additional information about HIV/AIDS. The most important take home points of the play were about modes of transmission (45%) and the need for tolerance and support for those with HIV infection (25%).
